  1. What I have learned this year in English class, so far…….

So far this year I have learned about a few things in English class, some of the things I have learned so far are How to know if you have tied your knots in the writing piece, how to never start a sentence with but, because or and. We also learned how not to be a Homer Simpson and be a super brain. These are just a few of the things we have learned so far this year in English class with Mrs. Provost.

  2. This year in language arts some things I learned or was refreshed on were…
A couple of these things are we learned how to properly write written responses. We learned when you start a sentence to just turn the question around and that starts your sentence. We also learned we shouldn’t eat puppies we shouldn’t like or use big buts and we shouldn’t use because because because. We also learned we shouldn’t go for the boring words but try for more exciting and descriptive words.

We have learned many different things. Some of those things are how to support your answers in NEACAPS and on other papers, you should never start a sentence with and, but or because, we also learned about good descriptive words to use in our papers, we have learned how to write responses and we have also learned to TTQA (turn the question around). Those are some of the things we have learned in English class.

  4. In English this year we learned was how to write a response.
To write a response you must analyze the data.
Then tell the good and the bad.
Next you break it down into parts.
We also learned how to be prepared for the necaps.
We learned we shouldn’t start sentences with big Buts or And.
The best of all is we read red midnight.

    English Rocks!

The most amazing things happened while I was in seventh grade. So far its been alright we’ve learned how to type and write a paragraph learned the hook of a paragraph and to tie our knots. We learned how to write a paragraph it will be important in our daily lives. We will need these skills to write in the future and that’s what English class is, preparing you for the future. All is well in English class but we can run into some trouble reading in our book and sometimes we get stressed but when Mrs. Provost kicks in with her red midnight, everything is smooth. Further more we all learned our own skills Mrs. Provost taught and made us look at the situation a different way if there was one.
The most important thing I learned in English class in seventh grade were we learned our VOCAB. We know what evaluate means in fact we are doing it right now. We are evaluating what we learned throughout the first term. We learned how to split up paragraphs and we need these skills right in our brain and fresh and ready to go. We also need these because we need to know words when we see them on our NECAPS and at daily life, maybe at your job in the future. We need to break it down if we don’t understand the paragraph. We learned so much its hard to put it all to one piece of paper but our learning is in there somewhere. I conclude that we need these skills Mrs. Provost is teaching us. Seventh grade is preparing us for the future. Lets learn!

  6. This year in language arts, the thing that stands out the most to me is, NECAPS and talking about how to construct quality responses. I think the reason why it stayed in my mind is because they way you taught us by using pizzas. Showing us reasonable a pizza is like writing a reasonable response. Using many details on one of the pizzas, is writing a response that uses describing words, and many details. Writing a response that makes sense is using a pizza that has things on it that make sense. Then your response makes sense. It’s all thanks to pizza to help write a quality response.

  7. This year in language arts we learned a lot!

Even after we learned a lot the thing that most stuck with me was... Talking about the qualities of our responses, how they start, the detail added and how good it goes with the topic. I really liked how you showed us the pizzas and how the good pizza has lots of detail and goes good with the topic; the not so good pizza has nothing to do with the subject and has very little detail if any about the subject. That stuck with me, so now I remember it when I start a constructive response, what’s good detail and not just filling the page with nonsense!

  8. This year we learned in LA....

In NECAP testing we learned that if we write answers with most of the words in the question we would probably get a good grade on that answer. One thing that helps a lot is the pizza thing, which will help with our writing because it tells us to put a lot of details but don’t put any random things in what we are writing.

  9. During this session of language arts I learned a lot of new ways to improve my writing like… No big Buts, almost every time I go to write I will start with a big But in at least one of my sentences and then I remember NO BIG BUTS. That rule that Mrs. Provost had taught me has helped me at least 7 times already, and I learned it like 9 days ago.

  10. We learned in L.A…

We learned strategies that we could use during NECAPS. For example TTQA, turn the question around is when you restate the question to form a response, we also learned how to construct reading responses and to support put as much detail as you can into it some of the things we learned I didn’t even know and was good information to have. We learned a lot in the first term in English, some of it was recap because we probably forgot most of it during the summer after our 6th grade year. Over all L.A was good and I think this year we will learn a lot of new things.

  11. Dear Mrs. Provost,

What I learned in LA this term was that the reading responses help me get my thoughts on paper that I had a hard time with last year. Also how to get fours on my necaps writing part and to support your answer with good details use all info that you know about the answer. Reading logs help out to get me reading, liking what I am reading ,to read every night.

    Sincerely,
    Christian p

  12. This term in language arts we learned about many things some of the more memorable things where some of the necap tips like; I like big buts, puppies, and eaters and turn your question around. I reread a very good book from last year. I think that all together I’ve learned a lot this term like the necaps tip I mentioned earlier and rereading that book, reading responses and more.

  13. Dear Mrs. Provost
What I learned in LA this term is how to get a four on a necaps reading response. You have to get all the details and characters in it. It has to be like a pizza with stuff that makes it good. If you do this it will get you a four. That’s something I learned is LA this term how to do a great reading response on necaps.

  14. One thing I well remember from this term is Midnight River. I think it’s a very good book for kids my age. I think this because its about a 12 year old who needs to take care of his 4 year old sister and his parents got killed and his responsibilities are tough ones its not like our responsibility. he need to go out in the ocean to safe the rest of the poor people in his country he needs to protect his little sister from the world he needs to make the boat trip fun. Ill also remember this term as a fun and creative term. One thing I love from this term was the TTQ and the flamingo talking to the holster. Also the I like big buts. I eat puppies Because I’m evil

  16. The things we learned this year in English where some great strategies on how to approach the NECAP testing booklet. Some strategies we learned where to turn the question around. (TTQA) This strategy help me personally because it really helps figure out the question and answer the question with more support. But we didn’t just learn about getting good grades on the NECAPS no, we used a strategy to change weak word (as said, laughed, smile) and change them to stronger and more hardy words ( such as yelled, giggled, grined.) So I hope these strategies can help you as much as they helped me. I’m also looking forward to see what new things our teacher has in store for us.

  17. This year I have learned lots of things, so far. I’ve learned about making pizzas, with every piece of cheese and sauce underneath all the toppings you need to make a good response, with a beginning, a middle and an end. I’ve learned not to put and, but or because in the beginning of a sentence, to make good response. I’ve also learned about “tying your knots” and making sure you have a full and complete answer with an intro and a conclusion. I look forward to learning new things in the next term.

  18. ive learned this year about vocab and different types of writing skills. ive been interested with poetry and reading but i mostly like spelling, ive been practising on the harder words and also the easyist. i love language arts very much, its my favorite class of the the day> ive learned to spell multiple words and how to write with exspression.

  19. What I have learned this year so for is Never put and, because or but in the start of a sentence. I learned this from the “puppy eaters and other visual paper that we received before the NECAP’s. I also learned “tying your knots”, which means finishing wrapping up you’re writing and being thorough and complete with your writing. One more thing I learned was TTQA (turn the question around) to make your answer more complete. These are just something of the things that I have learned in just the first term of the school year.

  20. Hello, my name is Anthony Y and in this term of language arts our class learned about things that we have to remember. Most of these things were NECAP tips and spelling words. We learned how to make excellent reading responses and to improve our writing. Our teacher taught our class that we shouldn’t use But, and, or because in the beginning of a sentence. Every night for homework we have to read and write about what we read. I learned a lot this term. Our teacher is also reading us a very interesting book called Red Midnight about a boy who goes on an adventure. Every now and then our teacher asks us what’s happening in the book to make sure we are listening. The last thing we learned this term is how to be detailed in our writing and how to edit our writing well. That is all we learned in language arts class this term, which is a lot.

  21. What I have learned in Language Arts is: we have learned different strategies to help us read and study for all types of testing. I have also learned the importance of turning in homework and reading every night, because if we do not read we can’t fill out are reading response papers and then a grade will drop each time. I have also learned all different kinds of ways to remember things like TTQA, break it down, the pizza, reread, look for details, and take your time, we have many more. I like that we have different way to think of thing it make it easier to remember what you have learned. I really like the way we have been learning this year.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This year I learned about TTQA. In 6th grade we talked about this slightly but is wasn’t very thorough. We also talked about how to create a perfect NECAP open response. I learned in this tie your knots and no eating puppies. In the process of learning all of this I used this to do good on the NECAPS.

    ReplyDelete
  23. What I learned in Language Arts is……….
During NECAPS to TTQA (turn the question around), reread the passage, look for important details, and look for the best possible answer. I learned a lot more things to do in NECAPS this year than last year because last year I could care less about NECAPS I was just excited for no homework. I did a lot of going through and looking for the best possible answer meaning if one answer has nothing to do with the question obviously don’t pick it. Also don’t try to guess the answer look for clues in the passage to help you. Another thing that helped me was to look for I portent details what I thought was important I highlighted. One thing that I did was I look at the questions before I looked at the passage to help me know what I’m looking for. I liked some of the passages I had to read but if I cant connect to them the passage gets really boring for me.

  24. I remember that Mrs. Provost taught us that when you are answering a problem in a full sentence you should rewrite it backwards, repeating the question and then put the answer. Just like how the bird has his N.E.C.A.P.S. on backwards so we would remember during the N.E.C.A.P.S. testing to rewrite the question. Also I remember that there is not supposed t be any BIG BUTTS, because we are not professional writers. If we start a sentence with “but” it could be counted off! The NO BIG BUTTS is an easy way to remember not to start a sentence with BUT.

    ReplyDelete
  25. What I learned in English so far is to support your answer and to give evidence because I would sometimes support my answer but not a lot. Another thing that I’ve learned is what not to put for the first word of the sentence. In almost every time I write I sometime put the words but, and and because. The other one is TTQA because it really helped in N.E.C.A.P.S for me. The last one that I learn in English so far is pizza to make sure you have the right toppings (details) and the good amount of sauce (story of writing piece).

  26. What have I learned so far in English? Well, for a matter of fact, I have learned a lot of things with my class and Mrs. Provost. One of those things being T.T.Q.A. T.T.Q.A. happens to be Turn The Question Around. For those who don’t know what that means or do, but forget how to set it up, here is an example: “What is a reason that you like or dislike English class?” & “A reason I like English class is…” This method really helped during the NECPS England Common Assessment Program) Testing, because there were some good, informational pieces that needed T.T.Q.A. One other method that helped greatly was Tie Your Knots. Tie Your Knots is when you have an excellent piece and you want to finish your thoughts with precision and matter of fact statements.
The last one that I will happen to mention is Pizza. Pizza is when you want to make sure you have all the right toppings (details) and make sure they compliment the sauce (story or writing piece). For instance, you don’t put an entire bag of cheese on there if there is a Lego® in it, right? Well, this is my response. I’ve covered my ground.

  27. Some things I remembered from Mrs. Provost’s English class are, The NECAP pizza and how you need to be very thrall when you answering the question like have the intro, body and support, SUPORT **SUPORT** And it really will improve you NECAP score. I also remember the pudding bowl, how you want all the layers of the pudding not just one layer, kind of like how you want all the supporting details not just the answer. You need to remember TTQA support and no big BUTTS!
I really like the way Mrs. Provost teachers because she relates a lot of things to real life stories like ‘tying your knots’ to NECAPS and pizza to NECAPS. I also like that she understands a teenagers like how she knows and understands that once we get home we probably wont open are backpack until Monday morning. It really helps a lot that she can relate.

  28. What I learned in the first term of language arts was about the NECAP pizzas and how we need to break our answers down and support our details with because and to give the most delicious tasty pizza we could possibly make for a 4 instead of a 1 or 2 because we wanted to use the Bloom’s taxonomy with our sporting breaking down and our because. We learned that we don’t like big But’s, because and and,or puppy eaters. These odd but helpful tips helped us with all of our writing and reading responses so that we can take them to the next level and score fours instead of twos or threes. The pizzas and all of these other ideas that really helped us two under stand how to break down our answers and support them to. When these tools are used we can all score awesome on our NECAP tests.

  29. What I learned so far in Language Arts is… I learned what some words mean and if they go together. Some of the words I learned are compare, contrast, support and other words. The book we are reading in class is Red Midnight. It is a really a good book its about a kid that lived in Guatemala. One day he woke up and there was a war going on he’s parents are dying and he’s uncle told him to go to a boat and go to the united state of America. I have been leaning a lot of things in Language Arts.

  30. This year, I have learned the three words that you should never begin a sentence with. The three words are and, but and because. Another thing that I’ve learned is to tie my knots which means that you need to wrap up your writing. The thing that I kind of forgotten over the summer is TTQA(turn the question around). Another technique that I learned is pizza. If the pizza has everything that goes on a pizza, then it’s a good writing response, but if its got nothing that is suppose to go on a pizza, then it’s not so good of a writing response.

  31. In English this year so far we learned how to support your answer on the NECAPS. We also learned not to start sentences with But! BIG BUTTS! I feel like a grew a lot during this term with writing I grew out of my old habits of starting sentences with but or ending writing just kind of empty handed and not tying my knots at the beginning and end. We also had to study 5 words Journey, Beginning, Definitely, You’re and Through. Since I threw these habits away I feel like I have grown so much and have become a much better writing and grown to love writing so much more!

  32. In English with Mrs. Provost so far this year we have learned how to spell harder words such as definitely, through, journey, you’re and beginning. We practiced for the NECAPS that we just finished. We were taught different strategies and writing techniques so that we would try are hardest on the test. We talked about our own personal journeys too. We talked about not starting our sentences with but or and. Lastly we discussed Blooms Taxonomy and taking steps up in thinking. This is some topics we have talked about over the course of this term.

  33. In English so far this year we learned how to support our answers on NECAP …
We learned that NECAPS aren’t that bad it’s the way you think of it! Before I thought of it as boring, tiring, long, time wasting…. Then once Mrs. Provost talked to us and made us understand that it’s a way to show how smart you are, a way to show improvement through the year! Now the words that pop in my head when I think necaps are fun, a way to outshine others, a way to show what I know, a way to show my improvement through my past years … no necaps are a way to show everyone your parents, teachers, pricipals, etc, just how smart you are!

  34. So far this year, we have learned about many things, but I prefer to focus on only one for the sake of time. I have chosen for this one thing to be necap Sundaes. On a particularly blustery Tuesday, we all focused on the front of the room where Mrs. Provost was standing, and she had a gleam of mischief in her eye. She explained that a constructed response is like a sundae. A 4 has loads of ice cream, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. A 3 is the same ingredients, just less. A 2 is missing crutial things, like the cherry or the whipped cream, and a 1 is a jumbled mess, with only a small scoop of ice cream…So this is how I learned to plan out my responses…

  35. In Language Arts term 1, we learned not to eat puppies, which means we learned not to put “and” at the beginning
of sentences. We also learned not to put “because” at the beginning of sentences either, and we can’t have “big buts”, meaning we can’t have “but” at the start of a sentence. So we are not allowed to have “and”, “but”, or because”, when we start our sentences. We also learned to tie our knots, which meant to have an introduction at the start of a paragraph, and an ending, at the end. It is important to do this to sentences, too. You must have a capital letter at the start of a sentence (NO AND BUT OR BECAUSE), and a period, or other punctuation at the end.

  36. Dear Readers,
What I learned this year in LA was how to spell better. In the beginning of the year I was terrible at spelling. I used to spell definitely defanatly but now I know to spell it definitely. On my 50-word quiz to see what we already knew I almost got half of them wrong! But I have already had two quizzes with those words and one of them was hard but I got 100 on both. I think learning words is easy as long as u just try and study a lot. It also depends on your teacher. That is all I have learned about spelling for term one of LA class.
    Sincerely,

  37. In class we discussed about stuff like big butts, support your answer, 1 to 4 point questions and how to get a 4 and how you would get a 1. In class we learned that you’re never done with a response or a story and how to spell 5 of the most hardest words and how to use them right in sentences. Like “go stand over there,” “that’s their car” and “they’re going to win the baseball championship.”

These are some of the things that we learned in class.

  38. Dear Mrs. Provost
For this year I hope to expand a lot as a student. One of my goals is to find a new book or series that I really like. I haven’t found a really good book in a while. I also hope to be less talkative than last year. I will also try a lot harder last year I slacked off a lot but, now I realize that I need to try hard to do well.
One of my biggest enemies is constructed responses . They are usually pretty easy but, they are so tedious. I really don’t like them and NECAPS are a giant test of constructed
    responses.
I like to read a lot. I find reading fun and it’s like another world in the palm of my hand. I assume you like reading also, you being an English teacher and all.
I have a couple of spelling goals I find myself a good speller, I made it to the state spelling bee but, I always spell words wrong. Maybe, I should slow down.
This is all I could think to write or type about. I hope this will be a fun year.
    From, Ty

  39. What I learned this year is…
How to do better on NECAPS. I learned new words like compare and contrast, and how to support my answers using details. Last week we had a spelling test on five words, definitely, beginning, through, you’re, and journey. I got one hundred percent on my spelling test but every week we have different words. That’s my favorite part about language arts because it makes me a better speller.

  40. Dear Readers,
What I learned this year in language arts class was to spell a lot better. I was a very bad speller in the beginning of the year, but now I’m a very good speller. Near the beginning of the year we had a 50-word, spelling quiz and I got about 25 right. Some of the words were pretty hard like Wednesday. I find that word hard because when you come to the “dnes” you get really confused where to put all of them in the word. That is the best thing I’ve learned this year so far in language arts, is how to spell better.

  41. This year I have learned many things. One specific thing that I have learned is how to support my answers well with many details in Necap testing. Before this school year when I took the Necap test I wouldn’t support my constructed responses with as many details that were needed to explain. When I took the test I would write down the answer to get it done. Not caring what grade I get on it. This school year Mrs.Provost has taught me and everyone else in my English class to support our constructed responses with many details, not just one. She has taught us not just to support our answers in Necaps, but to do this always. This is what I have learned this school year.

  42. This year in English class I’ve been learning how to make friendship recipes.
You start out with the title, the ingredients, the process of making it and the serving instructions. In my recipe, I wrote about my best friend, Taylor and the special things that we do together. I found this assignment very interesting to me and it brought back many wonderful memories about our friendship together. I enjoy writing a lot better when I have more freedom to write it how I want to. With this project, I felt like I had lots of freedom because, I could write about anything Taylor and I did together.
This is some of the things I learned so far this year.

  43. One thing I have learned in Mrs. Provost’s class is how to tie-a-knot (how to finish your sentence in complete sentences), we are also reading a book called red midnight. I think it’s a good book for kids my age because it talks about the problems that the kid has to go though and the responsibility he has to take care of himself and is his little sister (4 years old) Angelia. Another thing I liked about this term is how Mrs. Provost tries to make every assignment fun and interesting and not boring like other teachers may do.

  44. So far this year I have learned many important things in English. One thing I learned from Mrs. Provost is how to give evidence and support your answer. This skill is very important and I have noticed it has helped my writing a large amount. Another thin I have learned is never to start a sentence with a BIG BUT and not to start a sentence with and or you will EAT PUPPIES! You can also not use because at the beginning of a sentence. These are some things I have learned this year.

    Sincerely AJ

  45. One thing I learned in Mrs. Provost’s class is how to tie knots at the end of your sentences( so it is complete) In class we are reading a book called red midnight. I think it is a good book for kids my age and my grade because it is about being on your own and having to take care of yourself. Back to how to tie a knot it is just putting a period at the end of your sentences so you do not get a bad grade for language arts or any other class. So just remember to put periods.

  46. Term 1
In term 1 English I experienced 6th grade, but a lot more work, skill, homework, brain and other things that we would do in 6th grade, but harder.
In English class we worked on lot of supporting your answer, thinking about what you have wrote, rereading and other really good strategies. We also learned about eating puppies, starting a sentence with because or big buts!JThese tip worked for me for NECAPs and really helped for my reading responces or what I read and after I read and many other tips.

  47. One thing that I have learned in Mrs. Provosts English class is that to write any thing properly you need a great introduction and a great conclusion. Mrs. Provost told us that writing a prompt is a lot like sewing, when you start the project you need to tie a knot and at the end you also tie a knot, the beginning knot represents the proper introduction and the knot at the end represents the proper conclusion. Another reason why sewing is very similar to writing is that if your sewing is crooked that is also really bad, like if your writing assignment is not good or full of irrelevant information that is also very bad.

Mrs. Provost is reading the book “Red Midnight” to us. The book is about a boy in Guatemala whose village was destroyed by soldiers and he needs to sail to America to save himself and his sister.

  48. J What I learned this year so far is that you need to support your answer and spell check. One of my favorite things about righting is that it give you practice for big words. What I also learned is to go up the latter that we learned about if u are remembering u have a homer Simpson brain. I also learned to right complete sentences. J I also read a great reread book called the worst Halloween ever. We have a latter and it goes from homer and Einstein.

  49. What I learned this term? Hum I learned a lot this term but one of the BIGEST things I learned was the spelling words. I’m horrible at spelling I got 12 words out of 50 words right. Mrs. Provost has a spelling quiz. I was so happy because I really want to spell better! The words where definitely, through, you’re, beginning and journey. In one night I memorized all the words even through before I didn’t know any of the words .I have prove because I can show you my test score or you could see if I spelled it correctly up in the paragraph.JJJJJ

  50. This term we learned a lot about NECAP strategies. We learned not to like big buts, not to be flying monkeys (because because because because) and not to be a puppy eater (I am Evil. And I eat puppies) we learned to tie our knots and TTQA (turn the question around.) I found that all of this really helped me in the NECAPS because I didn’t get a very good score last year and I think these strategies really helped me improve

  51. I learned a lot of valuable information this term. Out of all the things I learned, some of the things I especially liked was the NECAP preparation that I think will stay in my mind for many more NECAPs to come; like not starting a sentence with And, But, or Because; Red Midnight (I loved the exciting plot and reading it helped me learn about character development and analyzing a story); and especially Bloom’s Taxonomy. That helped me know if I was just memorizing something, or learning it for life. All of these things and more made for an enjoyable term and I hope next term is just as good.

  52. Out of all the things I have learned in Language Arts this year, the lessons for NECAP prep stuck with me the most. What we learned is not only for NECAPs but also for every piece of writing we do in the future. I have found that the silliest things often stick in my mind, and this prep work was no exception. Puppy eaters, flying monkeys, and the like will stay with me for the rest of my years, as long I use them continually. For my second knot: NECAP prep is what I have learned from the most this year.

  53. This term in English I learned a lot of things. One of the things that stuck out was learning some of the spelling words. I thought I knew how to spell most of those words but it turned out I did not know how most of the words on the test. I think that learning how to spell those words will make me a better learner because I will learn how to plan better from making a plan of when to study the words and I will become better at spelling and spelling is always good to know in life.

  54. This term we learned a lot about how to write a constructive response for NECAPS. Instead of just sitting down and writing it I loved how Mrs. provost made it fun. For example no big buts, (which means to not put the word but after a period) and ttqa turn the question around or even puppy eaters! Which means to put an and after a period don’t be a puppy eater! This is what actually made NECAP constructive reading response’s not so bad. All of these strategies helped me during NECAPS but will also help me as a writer when I am sitting at home and writing I have these strategies in my mind for as long as I live and write.

  55. Being a student in Mrs. Provost’s class has taught me so much, one which being about really analyzing or getting to the root of a question or problem. To practice this she gave us some worksheets that would better improve our skills in this. We also did a paper where we had to see the definition and the word to go with it and we put them on paper so that we would be able to comprehend them and to know what they mean if we saw them on paper. This specific subject matter will stick with me because I learned some new vocabulary and because if a paper says to analyze, I will understand what they are talking about and how they want me to tell about the object. This will also become helpful in the future because I want to become a blogger and I will have to know how to analyze and describe what I am blogging about.

  56. In term one for 7th language arts class I have learned quite a few things that have really stuck with me. For instance, I have learned that we do not like Big Buts! Probably not like the ones you are thinking of. Mrs. Provost taught us that we should never ever start a sentence with but, and, or because. If we do then we will further more be considered as puppy eaters, flying monkeys, and creepy skeletons that stare daggers into the soul. Mrs. Provost always seems to come up with creative lessons that stick with us. One of them was about tying your knots at the begging and the end. She told a story of how she was hemming her daughter’s pants but didn’t tie her knots so it all came undone and fell apart. With this she snuck in a lesson about introductions and conclusions. She said that if you do not have your introduction and conclusion in your writing pieces, the whole thing would come undone and fall apart. I have learned a lot so far in language arts and its only term one! Those are only a few things I have learned so far in 7th grade language arts class.

  57. What I have learned so far this term. That is a relatively easy question to answer. The thing that stands out most for me is the spelling test. I am not the greatest speller, but I try. The 50 word test was okay, not the best ever, but okay. When we started studying for the 5 word test I was kind of nervous because some of the words were not my favorite words to spell. One of them was definitely. I always spelled definitely with out the second “e”. I got it right on the test, but I know that I will have to try hard to remember it. Spelling is definitely not my favorite part of language arts. Reading is what I like the most about language arts. I can loose myself in a book, really be a part of what is happening. I will also completely zone out. I won’t hear anything or see anything. I am completely a part of the book. My friends say that it is annoying that I am always reading. I can’t really help that I like to read so much. I probably got it from my sister. Anyway, I think the rest of language arts is okay. I just don’t like to spell.

  58. In Language Arts this term I really liked reading Red Midnight and learning about how to do good NECAPS response. We learned how to support all our ides with reasons why. We also learned about analyzing, (“break it down” ha-ha) never starting a sentence with and, because or but, also we learned about slowing down our reading and not devouring a book. I really like reading Red Midnight because I feel like we can relate to what Santiago is thinking. I can’t relate to what he has been through but I can understand what goes through his head like having Angelina mean the world to him and he will do anything to keep her safe. I also liked doing NECAP preparation because it made me feel really ready for them. When we started doing the NECAPS I felt like I knew how and what I was going to do for the responses. They are normally the things I hate doing the most on NECAPS.
Those are just some of the things I enjoyed about Language Arts class in Term 1.

  59. What I’ve learned in English class so far is, that its not about writing and reading only, it goes deeper then that. NECAPS, reading responses, spelling and more all tie into English class and are very important. I was a very bad speller last year and I feel like I’m doing much better now. I also read more often then I did last year and I’m finding books that I enjoy more and books that I might not of thought about reading last year! Overall I’m having a lot of fun in English this year!

  60. There are many things that I’ve learned in Language Arts this year but some of the more expressed things are…

Learning how to write a proper reading response. You can’t just throw effortless work onto paper and hand it in, it has to be thoughtful, because you want to transfer your message across through the response. You should also go beyond the amount of lines provided on the response paper, to “further deepen” you’re writing. Another thing we focused on is spelling words starting with the 50 word spelling test, which we were unable to study for as it was told to us spontaneously. Most of the word on the test were fairly easy, but be warned, some of the VERY, VERY, easy words tripped me up. The next 5 word quiz was much easier, and we had time to study.

  61. In language arts this term I learned a lot of new things. One of my favorite things that we learned was the N.E.C.A.P. prep, like big butts and puppy eaters and TTQA, but most of all “break it down!” They helped me a lot in the actual test. I also enjoyed listening to red midnight. It has a great meaning to it and its really cool to follow Santiago’s journey. A goal for me this year is to become a better reader, and be more thorough as I read.

  62. I have learned a lot of things in my English class, for example how to make a pizza, It has to be thorough and complete. We have also been learning about spelling words, for example journey, definitely and beginning! I think I have been doing very well in my class, I have gotten all A’s and I’m working through it, emotionally and physically. I think the thing that motivates me through English is that I’m in advanced English, so everything is harder and more complicated. I like to think about that when I’m doing my work because it helps a lot.

  63. As a student in English class I have learned a lot this term but I feel that the tips we learned for NECAPS and writing about a reread character are the things that standout to me. At my old school we were just thrown into state testing not knowing how to work through difficult questions. I think that even if we had learned tips I wouldn’t remember them but the way you helped the class and it really stuck in my mind during the stressful testing week. I don’t even know how I could forget that I don’t like big butts or because and I definitely do not want to be a puppy eater. I also learned to always tie my knots and make the yummiest pizza I could. All theses tips sound crazy but they really helped. Writing about my reread character was the most challenging thing I have done this year. I have never enjoyed writing about characters I don’t necessarily connect to so when this assignment came along I was totally stuck. This made me realize that it would probably be a good idea if I take my time reading and get to know my characters. Now, to tie my end knot, I conclude that these two things I learned really stuck out to me and I will remember them as I go through the year and years beyond.

  64. So far in 7th grade Language Arts class the one thing that has stuck to me for learning is all the creative rules Mrs. Provost has taught us. For example, my favorite rule is that you shouldn’t use and at the beginning of a sentence, for example, I’m evil. And I eat puppies. Another of her rules was not to start sentences with because. Because we would end up like Dorothy. Also we would need to tie both our knots, at the beginning and at the end of our paragraphs so they don’t fall apart. No big butts was another famous rule, and you guessed it don’t use it at the beginning of the sentences. Throughout the “hundreds of thousands of excruciatingly painful hours of the - dramatic pause - NECAPS” these rules stuck with me like glue. I did not once leave my scrap paper for the reading section of the NECAPS blank thanks to these weird, but helpful rules.

  65. So far, in language arts we have learned about many new things. One of those things is Bloom’s Taxonomy Chart.
Bloom’s Taxonomy is a chart explaining the steps and knowledge levels that you can have for any subject. It starts with just being able to remember facts and copy down info about the subject. It ends with having excelled enough to actually be able to teach someone that subject. There are many steps in between. Bloom’s Taxonomy helped me realize how things are learned and achieved in just any one subject. Instead of thinking that you’re either good at something or you’re not, I think about what someone has to do to become that good at something. I can figure out the amount of work it takes because I know how many steps there are in Bloom’s Taxonomy. Then all I have to do is figure out how much work goes into each individual step in the subject you are interested in.
So after only a little over one month in 7th , grade we have already learned about at least one tactic we can use in our real lives. Also, I at least, feel like I could teach this chart to someone else , which is the highest level of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

  66. So far in English we have talked about new ways to revise and edit our writing, strategies on how to remember things and we have also learned strategies on how to make our writing better. My favorite classes are the classes when we read and talk about Red Midnight. The reason they are my favorite is because I find myself listening and taking in information better when I am interested in what we are talking about in class. Also I like those classes the most because I like the book a lot so I’m actually listening with all my attention and I always want Mrs.Provost to read more, I have been tempted to check the book out and read it myself but I refuse to let temptations run my life, so I didn’t. Listening better has helped me as a learner because my mind is more focused on what I am doing, being able to do that has helped me in everything I do in life and has impacted my life tremendously. In close that is how I would reflect on my learning during the first term of 7th grade.

  67. There are many things that I have learned in Term 1 English like how to spell more advanced words correctly and what words to not start a sentence with.
I remember when we had to do NECAPSL Mrs. Provost taut us how to do our NECAPS in a fun way like when she told us about analyzing our work, she told us to break it down while she did a funky little dance about breaking our work down. She also taught us what words we couldn’t start a sentence with like but. While simultaneously she had a clip on her Smart Board that said “don’t like big butts” She also did this with because. She had a clip on the Smart Board that said “I hate Dorothy . Because. Because. Because. Because. Because. Because of all of the annoying things Dorothy does. To teach us not to start a sentence with because. And much, much more.
That is just some of the things that I have learned in Term 1 English

  68. This year so far in Language Arts we have learned many helpful things. Some of these things were new and some were review from last year. Some of the review included was learning how to write a proper reading response, spelling words and proper punctuation. Review is always good and I always appreciate it. Some things we learned that were new this year were some NECAP strategies. For example, TTQA (turn the question around), No Buts, ands or becauses to start a sentence and good descriptive words for our papers. I found a lot of these strategies helpful during the NECAP tests. Those are some of the things we learned in Language Arts so far this year.

  69. emily eastman Character Changes

My reflection is that I learned that when your reading a book you always look in a book and find a change. I recently red Among The Hidden I was able to memorize what I red and think back on how it changed the main characters life for example Luke was able to go outside were there was trees because nobody can see him. Luke is a third child he is not allowed to be in the world if the government found him they would take him and kill him. Luke was having fun outside until his mother yelled Luke get in here because the government was going to cut down the trees. That is how he changed from be able to go outside to having to be in the house. I now like to read and look for character changes.

  70. In Language Arts class this year I have learned many new things. The two things that have stayed with me the most were NECAP tips and Proper Reading Responses. . .

For example, the NECAP tips TTQA turn the question around, don't start sentences with and or no puppy eaters, break it down or club hip hop, tie your knots, and bake delicious pizzas not unappetizing ones were all very helpful to me. I felt more comfortable taking the NECAPS this year. Proper reading responses has taught me how to read deeper into the story. When I'm reading I analyze what is happening to the characters and how they relate to the story and eachother. This helps me to reflect better when I am finished and ready to write a response.

  71. Pizza 1 had very few toppings and was just sauce, bread and a few other details. This represented someone's writing who doesn't have enough anything to answer the whole questions.

Pizza 2 had ingredients that didn't belong on pizza. This means the writer deosn't have what people want in an answer and has included information that has nothing to do with the question.

Pizza 3 was the perfect pizza. It had everything and nothing extra.
